Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 October 2026

AskNani looks after some of the most personal information there is: your pregnancy, your health and your baby. This policy explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who sees it and the choices you have.

The short version

  • We collect only what you tell AskNani, and use it to support you.
  • Your health information is stored only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • We never sell your data, never show ads, and never use your health information to train AI.
  • AskNani’s answers are written by OpenAI, which sees your question and, if you allow it, the details that personalise the answer.
  • Anonymous usage statistics only if you say yes, never with what you write or your health details.
  • You can see, correct and download your data, and ask us to erase it.

This summary helps you find your way. The full text below is what applies.

On this page

1. Who we are

AskNani is run by [Company legal name], [Registered office address] (“we”, “us”). Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”), we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data you give AskNani: we decide why and how it is used, and we are responsible for looking after it.

This policy covers the AskNani website and app. If anything here is unclear, write to [privacy@your-domain].

2. What AskNani collects

Only what you choose to tell AskNani, and a little that any website needs to work.

Your account

  • Your name and email address.
  • Your password, which we never store as written: it is saved as a one-way hash (Argon2), so not even we can read it.
  • If you sign in with Google: the name, email address and account ID that Google shares with us.
  • A profile photo, if you add one.
  • When you accepted these terms and gave consent for your health information.

Your pregnancy and health

  • Your due date or the date of your last period, and how far along you are.
  • Your pregnancy history, and anything your doctor has told you (for example, a high-risk or IVF pregnancy).
  • Health details you add: blood group, conditions, allergies, medicines and previous complications.
  • What you log: baby’s movements, contractions, weight, mood and symptoms, water, appointments, your birth plan and hospital bag.

Your baby

  • Your baby’s name (optional), date of birth, gender (optional) and how early they were born, if they were.
  • How your baby is fed, health notes, allergies and conditions, and a photo if you add one.
  • What you log: feeds, sleep, diapers, temperature, growth, vaccines and milestones.

Your conversations with AskNani

The questions you ask AskNani and its answers, so you can come back to a conversation later.

Unless you switch it off, AskNani also keeps short notes from your chats (such as what you eat or who helps at home) and a one-line summary of each conversation, so you don’t have to repeat yourself. You can see, delete or switch off these notes in Profile, under Nani & language.

Your settings

What you want AskNani to focus on, your notification choices and your language.

Technical information

Like any website, our servers record basic technical details, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of each request. We use them to keep AskNani running and secure.

3. How we use it

  • To run AskNani for you: your week-by-week updates, trackers, calendar, reminders and AskNani.
  • To personalise guidance: AskNani uses your stage and health details, and the notes she keeps from your chats, to make answers fit you. You can turn this off at any time with “Personalise Nani’s answers” in Profile, or on the Ask Nani page, and turn off the notes alone in Profile.
  • To keep your account safe: signing you in, preventing misuse and fixing problems.
  • To improve AskNani, only if you say yes: anonymous usage statistics show which parts of AskNani are used and where people get stuck. See “Usage statistics” below.
  • To tell you about important changes to AskNani or to these documents.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not show you ads. We do not use your health information to train AI models.

5. Your baby’s information

Information about your baby is personal data about a child. You add it as their parent or guardian, and by doing so you give consent on their behalf. We use it only to run the baby features of AskNani for you, never for advertising, profiling or tracking your child.

6. Who we share it with

We share personal data only with the few service providers AskNani needs, and only what each one needs:

  • OpenAI writes AskNani’s answers and helps find relevant articles. It receives your question, the recent messages in that conversation and, if personalisation is on, the details AskNani uses to tailor its answer (such as your stage, the health notes you added and the notes AskNani keeps from your chats). When those notes are on, OpenAI also reads each message to pick out what is worth remembering. Under OpenAI’s API terms, this data is not used to train its models.
  • OpenAI also reads the reports you add (lab reports, scans, prescriptions), if you agree to it the first time: each page is sent to find the values, and the location stored inside phone photos is removed first. AskNani uses only the values you have checked. You can stop this any time in Profile, and delete any report.
  • Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Google (or Apple on iPhone), only if you use the microphone in AskNani: your browser sends your voice to them to turn it into text. AskNani receives only the text you choose to send.
  • PostHog, only if you say yes to anonymous usage statistics (see below).
  • Cloudflare checks that a sign-up or a password reset comes from a person, not a program. It sees technical details from your browser on those two pages, never your health information.
  • Our hosting provider ([Hosting provider, and the city or region where your data is stored]), which runs our servers and stores the database.

These providers may only use your data to provide their service to us. We also disclose data if the law requires it, for example to comply with a court order.

Inside our team, only a small number of authorised staff can see account details, for example to help when you contact support. Changes made by administrators are recorded in an audit log.

7. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored with [Hosting provider, and the city or region where your data is stored]. AskNani’s answers are generated by OpenAI, which processes data outside India, including in the United States. Usage statistics, if you allow them, are stored by PostHog in the European Union. We transfer data abroad only as the DPDP Act allows.

8. Usage statistics

AskNani asks you once whether you’d like to help us improve it by sharing anonymous usage statistics. It is off unless you say yes, and you can change your answer any time in Profile, under Privacy & data.

  • What is sent: which pages and features you use and when (for example “a feed was logged” or “AskNani was used”), your app language and whether you are using the pregnancy or baby part of AskNani.
  • What is never sent: what you write or ask, AskNani’s answers, your health, pregnancy or baby details, values from reports, your name, email or phone number. Page addresses are sent without anything that identifies a report, post or question.
  • How you are known: by a random ID, not your account, email or phone. PostHog is set not to keep your IP address, and nothing records your screen or what you type.
  • Saying no later stops it at once, and we ask PostHog to delete what it collected under your ID. Closing your account does the same.

Usage statistics are never offered to anyone under 18, and are never used for advertising.

9. How long we keep it

  • We keep your data while your account is open, so AskNani can keep supporting you.
  • You can delete your conversations with AskNani yourself at any time, as well as appointments and entries in your baby’s log.
  • When you close your account, it is switched off straight away and you can no longer sign in. We erase its personal data within [30] days, unless the law requires us to keep something for longer. You can also ask us to erase your data sooner (see “Your rights”).
  • Server logs are kept for up to [90] days.

10. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

  • Get a summary of the personal data we hold about you, how we use it, and who we have shared it with. You can download a copy from Profile → Privacy & data, or ask us for a complete one.
  • Correct, complete or update it. Most of it you can change yourself in Profile.
  • Have it erased.
  • Withdraw your consent.
  • Nominate someone to act on your behalf if you die or are unable to.
  • Have your concerns heard by our Grievance Officer.

To use any of these rights, write to [grievance@your-domain] from the email address on your account. We’ll reply within [30] days. If you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

11. How we keep it safe

We protect your data with reasonable security safeguards, including hashed passwords, encrypted connections, access limited to people who need it, and an audit log of changes made by administrators. Photos you add are private: only you can see them.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India, as the law requires.

12. Cookies and storage in your browser

AskNani uses only what it needs to work:

  • Sign-in cookies keep you signed in, and protect your account from forged requests.
  • Storage in your browser remembers small things on that device, like answers you saved, questions you ticked and a running timer. It is cleared when you sign out.

Usage statistics, if you say yes, add no cookie and keep nothing in your browser’s storage: the random ID comes from our server each time you open AskNani.

We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don’t track you across other websites.

13. Who AskNani is for

AskNani is for adults aged 18 or over. We don’t knowingly accept accounts from anyone younger. If you believe a child has created an account, write to [grievance@your-domain] and we’ll remove it.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your health information, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent again.

15. Contact and Grievance Officer

For anything about your data, or to make a complaint, contact our Grievance Officer: [Grievance Officer's name], [grievance@your-domain], [Company legal name], [Registered office address].

Please also read our Terms of Use.
